The CCMA makes a difference delivering social justice everyday in the work that we do. We believe as champions of good citizenship and nation builders we too must make a difference in the communities that we live in and serve.

The CCMA has Community Special Responsibility Programme which seeks to make a tangible and positive impact to various South African Communities. The programme has made a difference in various areas over the years, including:

  • Planting over 3 000 indigenous trees and distributing over 10 000 indigenous tree seeds to be planted as part of a greening education campaign conducted to primary schools across the country
  • Established 22 food gardens at primary schools around the country that are now providing healthy vegetables to both the learners and their communities.
  • Saved over 1000 peoples lives with our biannual blood drives
  • Stood up against xenophobia
  • Tested over 8 000 employers and users of the CCMA services for breast, skin and testicular cancer
  • Setup an HIV/AIDS testing stations annually at all of our offices for employees and users to be tested and counselled
  • Partnered with Reach for a Dream and made Junior Moleko’s wish come true.
  • All CCMA offices participate in the Mandela 67 minutes campaign with care centers being repaired, vulnerable communities fed and clothed, educational equipment being donated and last year over 100 blankets were knitted by our staff and family.

The CCMA’s Nelson Mandela Legacy Programme is a flagship Community Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme established in 2014 with the aim of advancing the legacy of the former South African President and global icon, Mr. Nelson Rolihlhla Mandela, by making meaningful contributions to community-based development initiatives.

The inauguration project was launched in Kwazulu Natal where CCMA was instrumental in establishing an onsite library/learning center at the Ngqayizivele Primary school in Umlazi. The library was established, furnished and filled with approximately 800 book, thanks to the considerable donations from CCMA  commissioners. This new library, the only one in the area, assists 500 students from the school but will also be open to the entire community.

Since the launch of the CCMA’s CSR programme, the concept has grown significantly year-on-year with an increase in the amount of funds pledged by CCMA Employees towards the betterment of a number of deserving communities, such as the following

At the 2015 Commissioners Indaba, Sarah Fox Children’s hospital in Cape Town was identified as a beneficiary. The CCMA Commissioners and staff pledged money which was used to renovate and furnish the staff kitchen at Sarah Fox.  The staff and Commissioners also donated consumables like nappies, toys, baby formula etc for the kids.

Menzi Children’s home is the 2016 beneficiary for Nelson Mandela CCMA Legacy project. Menzi Children’s home is a home for disabled kids, abandoned kids and kids living with HIV/Aids. The home currently looks after 13 kids who live in a rented four roomed house. At the 2016 Commissioners Indaba Commissioners pledge towards the Buy A Brick project.

Aunty Sally’s Soup Kitchen, situated in Vryburg, North West Province, was the beneficiary of the CCMA Nelson Mandela Legacy Programme for 2017 and received R39 000.00 (Thirty-nine thousand Rands) to help it accomplish its mission of becoming a sustainable feeding scheme. Aunty Sally’s Soup Kitchen is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that feeds improvised community members in the surrounding areas of Vryburg, North-West Province. Aunty Sally manages the soup kitchen with the help of her husband’s pension proceeds as well as the profit that she makes from products that she sells.

The 2018 CCMA Nelson Mandela Legacy Programme beneficiary was Baby Lovers Blessings, situated in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. R35 750, 00 (Thirty-five thousand seven hundred fifty Rands) was donated to the organisation to empower its provision of support to mothers and their new born babies. CCMA staff also donated toiletries and other baby products to supplement the pledged amount.

New BeginningZ, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Tshwane (Pretoria), was nominated as the beneficiary of the CCMA’s Nelson Mandela Legacy Programme, for the remarkable work it continues to do and, in particular giving the youth of Itereleng renewed hope to defy the odds of being subjected to abject poverty and other social-ills. R64 450.00 (Sixty-four thousand, four hundred and fifty Rands) was donated to the centre.
